What is Precocious Puberty?

Precocious puberty occurs when a child’s body begins showing signs of puberty earlier than the normal age range.

When puberty starts too early, it can lead to:

Why Early Evaluation Matters

Key Signs of Precocious Puberty

While symptoms vary from child to child, you may notice the following changes: In Girls: Breast development earlier than peers, sudden and rapid increases in height, changes in body odor, acne, early onset of menstruation (menarche), vaginal discharge, or the appearance of pubic or underarm hair. In Boys: Early enlargement of testicles or penis, rapid growth spurts compared to peers, increased body hair, a deepening voice, acne, or experiencing erections and wet dreams. ※ Note: It is important to distinguish true precocious puberty from simple differences in physique or temporary bodily changes.

Our Precision Diagnostic Approach

Our in-depth evaluation for precocious puberty isn’t about running as many tests as possible. It is a careful, step-by-step assessment designed to determine if treatment is truly necessary. We do not apply a one-size-fits-all testing approach. Instead, moving to the next diagnostic step depends entirely on the results of the previous one.

Diagnostic Workflow

Here is how we evaluate your child’s condition:

STEP 01: Determining the Need for Further Testing

We begin with a bone age assessment (X-ray) to check if your child’s bone maturation is advancing faster than their chronological age.

If within the normal range for their peers:

→ We simply monitor their progress (watchful waiting) without further testing.

If advancing rapidly:

→ We proceed to the next stage of evaluation.

STEP 02: Initial Precision Assessment (Blood Tests & Ultrasound)

This step involves combining laboratory tests and ultrasound imaging to get a comprehensive view of any changes related to growth or the onset of puberty.

Blood Tests

Evaluates hormone levels related to growth and puberty, along with overall health.

Ultrasound Imaging

Examines internal reproductive organs to assess physical development and maturation.

If no distinct abnormalities are found:

→ We recommend continued observation without medical treatment.

If further assessment is required:

→ We conduct a comprehensive clinical review to confirm if puberty is actively progressing.

How We Interpret the Results

A diagnosis of precocious puberty—and the decision to treat it—is never based on a single test result. We only consider medical treatment when the following criteria are met concurrently:

Medical intervention is not necessary for every child. We only recommend treatment when there is a risk to your child’s final adult height. Any decision to proceed is made carefully, following a thorough consultation with parents. What is Injection Therapy?
